Having just done a project recently about creating a font (for the first time ever!) I want to share with you all what I learned and the resources that I found useful.
Fontstruct is a free website that allows you to create a font digitally through use of various grids and tools. It sounds a little complicated, but it is actually quite easy! Signing up for the website is required.
Paintfont is another website for font creation, but aimed more at traditional pen and paper designing versus fontstruct’s completely digital alternative.
